New wind plant to be built

NINH THUAN (Biz Hub) — Viet Nam Electricity Investment and Construction has received permission to build the second phase of a wind power project in the southern province of Ninh Thuan.

The VND900 billion (US$43 million) project is part of the Cong Hai 1 power plant consisting of 15 wind generators with a design capacity of 37.5MW.

The plant will be located on 160ha in Thuan Bac District's Cong Hai Commune. It is scheduled to open by 2015.

The first phase of Cong Hai 1 plant embraces three wind generators with capacity of 3MW and is scheduled to operate by 2014. However, construction has not started yet.

The southern coastal province of Ninh Thuan is said to have a great potential to develop wind power projects.

There will be 14 wind zones on an area of 8,000 ha. The province has attracted both foreign and domestic investors in the green power projects. — VNS
