High-quality staff needed for sustainable development

HCM CITY (Biz Hub) – High-quality human resources is one of the most important factors for sustainable development, Vu Dinh Thanh, rector of HCM City University of Technology, said at a meeting held in the city today.

Development of future generation should be implemented through entering long term partnerships with academic institutions to promote actively the sustainable agenda.

Gary Schutz, general director of Holcim Viet Nam Co., said his company placed sustainable development at the core of its business strategy as it is a long-term investor in the country.

The company targets sustainability in the economy, environment and society, he said, by using renewable energy, environmentally friendly construction and the creation of world-class talent for its organisation.

Holcim targets having two to three Vietnamese on its board of directors by 2016, according to the company.

At the meeting, Holcim Viet Nam and HCM City University of Technology signed a partnership agreement from now to 2015.

The focus will be to provide opportunities for students to apply skills and knowledge into practice, and to have better access to the employment market.

More and more students have participated in the Holcim Prize, a platform for students to contribute and apply practical ideas for sustainable development, Schutz said.

The latest winning project has been put into practice in Ninh Thuan Province and is expected to bring practical benefits to the local community, he added. –VNS
