HA NOI (BizHub) — Expatistan.com, a website that provides the cost of living in various cities around the world, has ranked HCM City 174th in the list of the world's most expensive cities.
Except Singapore, the top 10 most expensive cities in the world are located in Europe and the US.
The website, which has the largest free database of prices in cities around the world, collects the prices of food, housing, clothing and transportation, as well as personal care and entertainment expenditure to calculate a cost of living index.
The website contains over 782,000 prices from 1,617 cities provided by 203,000 internet users from across the world.
According to the website, the cost of living in HCM City is 71 per cent cheaper than in London, United Kingdom, the city ranked No 1 in the list.
Compared to other cities in the ASEAN region, the cost of living in HCM City is 66 per cent cheaper than in Singapore, which is ranked seventh; 28 per cent cheaper than in Bangkok, Thailand, ranked 132nd; and 20 per cent cheaper than in Jakarta, ranked 149th. — VNS
