HCM CITY (Biz Hub) — HCM City is among the 10 fastest-growing cities in the world, a new report issued yesterday said.
The report, which focuses on the world's most dynamic cities, was made by the HCM City office of Jones Lang LaSalle (JLL), one of the world's largest real estate services firm specialising in commercial property management, leasing and investment management.
The list is based on the firm's periodic six–month report that focuses on emerging and developed economic centres in the world.
Stephen Wyatt, JLL's general director in Viet Nam, said the city has developed considerably over the last two years, thanks to improved economic conditions.
Jeremy Kelly, director of the Global Research Programmes team at JLL, said the city has risen as an important economic centre of Asia. Its large investment in infrastructure, such as the first metro construction project, has contributed to increasing the country's GDP.
During the first six months of this year, the city attracted more than US$1.2 billion (US$50,000) in foreign investment. The recent construction of the new US$1.4-billion factory of Samsung Electronics at HCM City's high-tech industrial zone is evidence of the growing interest of foreign investors in this city.
In April this year, the city was also named as having among the fastest growing numbers of the super-rich in a report by New World Wealth.
Comparing cities over the past decade, New World Wealth found Houston, Jakarta, Mumbai and HCM City to be rising substantially in popularity, particularly among the world's most moneyed people.
Over the past 10 years, the percentage of multi-millionaires globally has grown by 71 per cent, with an impressive 400 per cent rise in this city. — VNS
