HA NOI (Biz Hub) — A consultancy and supervision contract was signed for the Dung Quat Oil Refinery expansion project's front end engineering design (FEED) phase in the central Quang Ngai Province on September 21.

Under the contract, the United States-based Quad Personnel Consultants company and the domestic Giac Thanh Co. Ltd will be advisors in a deal worth VND50 billion (US$2.22 million).

The consultancy will be implemented at the same time as the FEED contract, signed in August between the United Kingdom-based Amec Foster Wheeler Energy Ltd. and Binh Son Refinery Company, a unit of PetroVietnam.

The Dung Quat Oil Refinery, which began operations in May 2010, was designed to process 6.5 million tonnes of crude oil per year from the Bach Ho oil field.

The $1.8-billion expansion project is expected to increase the plant's annual processing capacity to 8.5 million tonnes. It will take 78 months and is scheduled to be completed by 2021.

The expanded project will meet the Euro 4 and Euro 5 standards, the Vietnamese government's requirements on environmental standards, along with domestic demands. — VNS
