City plans year-end festive programmes

HCM CITY (Biz Hub) — HCM City will organise a host of promotions and festive events to attract international and domestic tourists at the year-end season, according to the city's Department of Tourism.

Nearly 500 enterprises in tourism, hotels, restaurants and beauty-care services as well as commercial centres and major traditional markets will join the HCM City Grand Sale 2014, said La Quoc Khanh, deputy director of the Department of Tourism.

A wide range of promotions and discounted products and services will be offered at more than 1,000 popular stores, commercial centres and traditional markets in the city during one-month sale programme starting from December 1.

Participating enterprises have to register their discounted products and promotions with the Department of Industry and Trade, Khanh said.

Clothes, food and foodstuff, fruits, household appliances, souvenirs, cosmetics, handicrafts, entertainment and beauty-care as well as travel services are among products and services with attractive discounts.

Hundreds of enterprises will showcase their products at nearly 400 booths at the Consumption Promotion Fair from December 28 to January 3 at Phu Tho Stadium in HCM City's District 11.

International tourists and local residents in HCM City will experience Vietnamese and international foods and specialities offered by 60 restaurants and hotels presented by 20 countries and territories at the Culinary Festival held at September 23 Park in HCM City.

As many as 100 master chefs will hold cooking demonstrations of 60 delicious cakes at the four-day event that will open on December 4.

The city welcomed 3.5 million international tourists in the first 10 months of the year, a year-on-year increase of 8 per cent.

Over the period, tourism revenue rose by five per cent compared to the same period last year to reach VND72.7 billion (US$3.46 million).

The city targets 4.4 million international tourists this year. — VNS
