Agro-forestry-fishery exports exceed $6 bln in first two months

The export turnover for agro-forestry-fishery products in February 2018 was estimated at US$2.6 billion, raising the total value in the first two months of 2018 to $6.1 billion, up 30.2 per cent against the same period last year.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the export value of key farm produce hit $3.3 billion, a year-on-year rise of 27.8 per cent. Meanwhile, revenue from aquatic and forestry product shipments reached $1.2 billion and $1.43 billion, increases of 29.5 per cent and 28.5 per cent, respectively.

In February, Viet Nam earned $179 million from exporting 369,000 tonnes of rice, raising January-February rice exports to 861,000 tonnes, worth $419 million, an increase of 17.2 per cent in volume and 34 per cent in value from the same period last year.

Other products saw increases in both volume and value, including coffee, tea, cashew nuts, vegetables and fruits, along with cassava and cassava products.

Cashew nut exports topped the list in the two months, with 54,000 tonnes shipped, worth $555 million, up over 73 per cent and nearly 95 per cent, year on year. This was followed by vegetables and fruit, worth $672 million, up 59.5 per cent.

Export revenues for rubber and pepper increased 29.5 per cent and 36.5 per cent to $348 million and $121 million, respectively.

According to the Ministry, agro-forestry-fishery imports in February were estimated at $2.57 billion, raising the total value in the first two months to $5.29 billion, a year-on-year increase of 30.6 per cent. — VNS
