Viet Nam hosts Global Conference on Sustainable Manufacturing

BINH DUONG (Biz Hub) — More than 200 academics, researchers and practitioners are attending the 13th Global Conference on Sustainable Manufacturing that opened in the southern province of Binh Duong on Wednesday.

Over three days the conference intends to bridge the gap between industrialised and emerging countries by focusing on local applications and societal implications of innovative technologies.

It will feature keynote speeches and panel discussions with parallel sessions on sustainable approaches and present benchmark solutions from companies.

Some of the key topics are resource efficiency in factories of the future, technological elements of a circular economy, and the principle of 6R-based closed loop materials flow in sustainable manufacturing as well as sustainable manufacturing – a multidisciplinary challenge.

Discussions pertaining to Viet Nam include solutions and best practices in areas like resource efficiency and effectiveness, recycling and re-manufacturing, innovative business models and examples for industrial symbiosis.

They are expected to give the participants a holistic view on the multitude of technological opportunities which can foster prosperity through global collaboration and competition.

Today the conference also features an industry day and academic presentation focusing on practical sustainable solutions in fashion, technology and innovation management; industrial development and urban sustainability - international and Vietnamese perspectives; sustainable business model strategies in the manufacturing industry; and human-centered automation and higher resource productivity.

Participants from all over the world have submitted more than 150 papers on sustainable manufacturing that will afterwards be published as a booklet.

Hosted by the Vietnamese-German University, the conference comes to Viet Nam for the first time after being held in many countries including the US, China, Germany, Brazil, Russia, South Korea, India, and Malaysia. — VNS
