HA NOI (VNS) — The construction ministry has proposed that the government should revoke more than 260 projects in some coastal areas.
These projects cover more than 19,000ha in seven coastal areas: Ba Ria-Vung Tau, Kien Giang, Khanh Hoa and Da Nang, as well as Quang Nam, Ninh Thuan and Binh Thuan.
They are among the 780 projects located in these areas, of which 15 projects have already been revoked.
In its recent proposal, sent to the Prime Minister, on management measures for investment projects in coastal areas, the ministry said its reasons for suggesting the withdrawal include improper bidding in choosing investors for these projects and the fact that a number of investors with low financial capacity had won major projects.
Besides this, some projects were illegally granted preferential investments, while some projects were found to have violated laws and regulations on land transfers.
The construction ministry proposed that the relevant authorities should temporarily suspend projects found guilty of violations to allow adjustments to be made or their investment license should be revoked.
The ministry plans to work with the relevant ministries, agencies and People's Committees of 28 coastal areas to review the creation and approval of construction plans to introduce adjustments related to legal regulations and to ensure construction planning and design are in line with the demand for managing and developing coastal areas and adapting to climate change.
Inspections will also be ramped up to ensure tighter supervision and management of projects in coastal areas.
Earlier, the government had asked the relevant ministries and localities to propose measures for managing planning and construction investments as well as for managing land use for projects in coastal areas. — VNS
