Index loses ground as blue chips slump

HA NOI – Large-cap shares that led yesterday's rises on stock markets slumped this morning, dragging down shares on the HCM City Stock Exchange.

The benchmark VN-Index gave up 2.36 points, or 0.48 per cent, to stand at 487.48 points, while the VN30 tracking the top 30 shares on the bourse was down 0.16 per cent at 544.09 points.

Heavyweight shares including Masan Group (MSN), Vinamilk (VNM), Bao Viet Holdings (BVH) and VinGroup (VIC) all lost from 0.5 per cent to 1.6 per cent.

The trading value improved slightly over yesterday but was still modest at VND548.3 billion (US$26.1 million) on a volume of nearly 28 million shares.

Refrigeration Electrical Engineering (REE) led trades in the southern market with almost 2.4 million shares changing hands at VND25,400 ($1.21) a share.

On the Ha Noi Stock Exchange, the HNX-Index was also off 0.54 per cent from yesterday to 62.86 points with the value of trades reaching just VND115.3 billion ($5.5 million).

The market condition was negative as the decliners outnumbered the advancers by 109-40 while up to 239 codes were unchanged.

Investment FLC Group (FLC) continued to be the most active code on trades of 5.7 million shares exchanged at VND6,600 a share. – VNS
