Blue chips drag down VN-Index

HA NOI (Biz Hub) — Shares unexpectedly fell at the end of this morning's session, despite rising during most of the trading period. Blue chips were the main drag on the market.

The VN-Index on the HCM Stock Exchange inched down 0.07 per cent to end at 626.16 points, while the VN30, which tracks the top 30 shares by market value and liquidity, was also down 0.07 per cent to stand at 651.26 points.

The overall market condition was good, as the gainers outnumbered the losers by 104 to 82, while 120 remained unchanged.

PV Gas (GAS), the second-largest stock here in terms of market value, closed down 0.84 per cent, while other large-cap stocks such as Hoa Phat Group (HPG), Hoang Anh Gia Lai Co (HAG), Eximbank (EIB) and Sacombank (STB), besides VinGroup (VIC) and Bao Viet Holdings (BVH) also slumped.

Money continued to flow into mid-cap shares as five of the most active stocks were from this group. HCM City Infrastructure Investment Co (CII) was leading with 5.4 million of its shares being exchanged, rising 0.4 per cent to stand at VND26,400 (US$1.21) per share.

The overall liquidity remained modest at nearly 65 million shares, worth VND1.2 trillion ($55 million).

On the Ha Noi Stock Exchange, the HNX-Index also gave up 0.16 per cent to finish the morning at 85.67 points, on a low trading value of VND230.4 billion ($10.6 million).

Only three stocks saw trading of more than one million shares here. KLF Joint Venture Global Investment Co (KLF) was the most active stock, with 1.6 million of its shares being traded, ending flat at VND6,100 each.
