The Saigon Union of Trading Cooperatives (Saigon Co.op) will this month cut prices on 200 items, buy agricultural products from distressed farmers and use a part of its revenues from moon cake sales to buy and donate medical supplies to frontline COVID-19 workers.

From now until September 22 Co.opmart, Co.opXtra and Co.op Food offer discounts of 15-20 per cent on soft drinks, nutritional drinks, poultry eggs, seafood, chicken meat, beef, pork, processed products, and fruits.

They are offering big discounts on cooking oils, ST24 rice, instant coffees, drinking yoghurts, washing liquids, shampoos, hair conditioners, floor cleaners, dishwashing liquids, shower gels, and toothpastes when customers buy a second, fourth and eighth item of a product, and discounts of up to 50 per cent on household appliances and apparel during weekends.

Co.opmart and Co.opXtra supermarket chains have stepped up purchases of agricultural products, including Java rambutan varieties in Ben Tre Province with the support of the Navy Region 2 Command, and Booth avocado in Dak Lak Province’s Cu M'gar District.

A spokesperson for Saigon Co.op said all supermarket systems have stockpiled large amounts of goods, especially essential items, to meet the needs of consumers.

In places where people are not yet allowed to shop in person, the supermarkets will focus their resources on serving community orders and online sales.

In some places it organises a programme under which Co.op Food deliver orders by bus to collection points. — VNS
