Nestlé Vietnam on Thursday handed over 10,000 unbaked bricks made from steam boiler waste sand during the process of producing instant coffee at its Tri An factory for building a dining room for more than 1,000 students at the Nguyen Hue Primary School in Dong Nai Province.
This was in response to the "Make the world cleaner in 2018" campaign launched by the Viet Nam Environment Administration, and sought to raise awareness of environmental protection among school children.
Nguyen Thanh Cong of the Dong Nai Province Department of Natural Resources and Environment hailed the efforts made by the company for environmental protection.
Nestlé began collecting the sand generated during coffee production process in 2014.
By the end of the third quarter of this year more than 2 million tonnes of sand was collected instead of being discharged into the environment, and used to produce nearly 5 million unbaked bricks meeting national construction standards.
The bricks are widely used in civil and industrial works. — VNS
