Japanese Mitsubishi will co-operate with the central city of Da Nang in production of battery-powered cars, high-quality health care service and information technology, as well as infrastructure projects.
President and General Manager of Mitsubishi Corporation Viet Nam, Tetsu Funayama, announced the plans at a meeting with Da Nang city’s leadership last week.
He said Mitsubishi Viet Nam will co-operate with local software giant FPT in IT, with the city’s central hospital in health care services, and with the central power corporation in electric car production.
Funayama said the company’s infrastructure development projects in the city include moving the Da Nang railway station and water supply improvement.
He said Mitsubishi Viet Nam will set up an office in Da Nang.
The city administration has pledged to create the most favourable conditions for Mitsubishi Viet Nam’s key infrastructure projects.
The Chairman of the city’s People’s Committee, Huynh Duc Tho, said the city is giving top priority to high-tech and clean technology investment projects as Da Nang plans to become a green city by 2025.
The central city prides itself on being the first in Viet Nam to promote clean energy solutions for residential use. The first solar power system of Da Nang was built in the FPT Complex project in 2014 with a capacity of 12kWh each day and a solar power heater system.
Da Nang has licensed 20 battery-powered cars to serve tourists in Son Tra peninsula since 2012.
Last year, Mitsubishi Motors Viet Nam debuted a new showroom in the city.
Japan is the biggest investor in Da Nang, with 112 projects worth $397 million – 10 per cent of the foreign direct investment (FDI) projects in the city, creating 32,000 jobs.
The city plans to build an industrial park on 134ha for medium-sized and small businesses from Japan.
Da Nang launched the first direct air route connecting Tokyo and the city in 2014, and a new direct flight between Osaka and Da Nang will start operating later this year. — VNS
