Hoa Sen Group shipped 5,000 tonnes of corrugated iron to Malaysia from Quy Nhon Port in the central province of Binh Dinh on Friday.

The US$4 million shipment was manufactured at the Hoa Sen-Nhon Hoi-Binh Dinh Steel Plant in the province.

In the context of rising trade protection policies, Hoa Sen Group would focus on improving its production capacity and ensure its presence in key export markets such as Malaysia, Australia and Indonesia, its general director Tran Ngoc Chu said.

On the same day, the group launched the second phase of its Hoa Sen-Nhon Hoi-Binh Dinh Steel Plant, bringing the plant’s production capacity up to 430,000 tonnes each year.

Ho Quoc Dung, chairman of the provincial People’s Committee, said the operation of the factory’s second phase would help diversify the province’s industrial products, increase its export turnover and create more local jobs.

Dung said he hoped Hoa Sen Group would bring strong investors into his locality.

In 2018, the central province attracted 62 domestically invested projects worth more than VND20.48 trillion ($879 million). Of the total, 20 capitalised at VND5.48 trillion came into its economic and industrial zones, according to the Investment Promotion Centre of Binh Dinh.

Last year, the province also granted licences to eight foreign-invested projects with a total registered capital of $135 million. The latest additions brought number of foreign-invested projects in the province up to 78, valued at $791 million in total. — VNS
