South Korean CJ Group on Friday inaugurated its chili powder processing factory, worth more than US$650,000, in the south central province of Ninh Thuan.
Covering 640 sq metres, the factory can produce 500 tonnes of chili powder each year. This will be used for the group’s food processing industry after strict quality supervision, CJ said in a statement.
The plant will utilise chili planted in the province’s Tam Ngan 2 Commune, Ninh Son District as part of CJ Group and the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA)’s project. Started in 2014, the US$2.1 million project aimed at creating better livelihoods for local people while providing the group with a new source for its chili powder. Besides supplying varieties of chili and fertilisers, CJ Group sent its experts to assist Ninh Thuan farmers in farming techniques.
In his speech at the plant’s opening ceremony, vice chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Pham Van Hau said he hoped that CJ Group will make further investment in the province in the future. — VNS
