The India-based Adani Group on September 12 announced it will donate US$1 million to the Central Relief Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front to help people affected by typhoon Yagi in Việt Nam.

In a letter sent to Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính, Adani Group chairman Gautam Adani expressed his deepest condolences to the people of Việt Nam, especially people affected by the typhoon and floods across the northern provinces of Việt Nam.

“Việt Nam and its resilient people have always shown remarkable strength in the face of adversity. During these difficult times, it is essential that we come together to support those most affected by this natural disaster,” Adani wrote.

“To this end, the Adani Group would like to humbly pledge $1 million to the Central Relief Mobilisation Committee, hoping that this contribution will support the collective efforts of the entire nation and provide essential assistance for charitable relief activities in the northern provinces of Việt Nam affected by storms and floods, as well as for Việt Tiệp Friendship Hospital in Hải Phòng City in the future."

The group chairman also pledged to continue to support communities and intensify the group’s investments in sustainable development in Việt Nam.

As of 5pm on September 12, Typhoon Yagi and subsequent flooding had left 330 people dead or missing in 26 of Việt Nam's northern provinces. The storm damaged an estimated 141,469 homes, 550 health facilities and 805 schools, while around 400,000 homes lack access to clean water. — VNS
