ABBANK will donate more than 11,000 saplings to people in the border area of Tay Giang District, Quang Nam Province, as part of its annual charity programme, Tet An Binh.

It is in response to a call from Prime Minster Nguyen Xuan Phuc to plant a billion trees in Viet Nam in the next five years.

The trees, mainly ironwood and acacia, will be given to 10 disadvantaged ethnic households in three communes in the district.

These two species grow well in the area, bring economic benefit to the recipients and help increase the green cover.

Tay Giang is one of the poorest districts in Quang Nam with a poverty rate of 60 per cent, with the Co Tu ethnic people accounting for 95 per cent of the population.

People here mostly live along streams inside forests. The district was also one of localities badly affected in the recent floods.

Besides the trees, the bank will also give Tet gifts worth VND500,000 (US$21.6) each to 100 families living in extremely difficult circumstances in the district.

The 2021 Tet An Binh is organised by the bank and the Centre for Natural Resources and Environment Communication under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment in collaboration with the Viet Nam Women's Union in Quang Nam. — VNS
