DA NANG (Biz Hub) — The number of bank cards in circulation nationwide last year hit 57.1 million, an increase of 38.5 per cent over the previous year, Viet Nam Bank Card Association announced at a meeting in Da Nang yesterday.
Domestic cards made up 92 per cent and international cards 8 per cent. Vietinbank had the largest share of those in circulation with 12.6 million cards (23 per cent) among 52 card issuers in the domestic market.
The use of bank cards to pay for services and products continued to grow, indicating their convenience was being recognised.
At the end of March, there were 14,300 ATMs and 101,400 POS (point of sale) machines nationwide, most accepting cards from other banks. — VNS
