HÀ NỘI — The Japan Việt Nam Livestock Company Limited (JVL) has put into operation one of Việt Nam's largest beef processing plants in Tam Đảo, Vĩnh Phúc Province.

This is Việt Nam’s first plant dedicated to processing chilled beef, with all meat handled within a strictly controlled and highly sanitary environment. In the future, Sojitz aims for the plant to process and supply about 10,000 tonnes of beef annually.

JVL was established in September 2021 by the Việt Nam Livestock Corporation-Joint Stock Company (a subsidiary of Vinamilk) and the Sojitz Corporation.

By March 2025, Sojitz plans to launch a cattle farm near the processing plant, ensuring a stable supply of high-quality beef products. The corporation aims to develop an integrated system encompassing livestock farming, processing and sales.

Currently, annual beef consumption in Việt Nam stands at 500,000 tonnes. Sojitz anticipates that Việt Nam’s growing population and rising incomes will drive domestic beef consumption higher. As economic growth diversifies consumer behaviour, demand for high-quality beef processed in sterile, chilled environments is expected to increase.

Since 2022, JVL has conducted marketing trials for importing and selling Japanese beef, before commencing the sale of Vietnamese beef products processed at partner factories through retail channels, including supermarkets and restaurants, starting in 2023.

In March 2023, Vinamilk and Sojitz broke ground on the Vinabeef Tam Đảo livestock and beef processing complex. The project, with a total investment of VNĐ3 trillion (US$118 million), spans 75.6 hectares and consists of two main divisions, including a cattle farm and a chilled beef processing plant.

The new processing plant is designed to handle about 30,000 cattle annually, aiming to increase beef production to about 10,000 tonnes per year. The cattle farm adjacent to the processing plant will have a capacity to raise 10,000 livestock. — VNS
