HAI PHONG (Biz Hub) — VietJet, the nation's fastest growing carrier, plans to launch new flight routes connecting the northern Hai Phong City with several domestic and international destinations.

VietJet Chairwoman Nguyen Thanh Ha revealed this during a meeting with the municipal People's Committee on Tuesday.

Ha said flights departing from Hai Phong's Cat Bi International Airport to Da Nang, Nha Trang and Da Lat would be started soon, besides four others that will fly to China.

During his speech at the event, the Secretary of the municipal Party Committee, Duong Anh Dien said VietJet's decision to launch flights from the Cat Bi International Airport had proved its potential in aviation.

The airport's expansion, which is slated for completion in the year-end, would boost its capacity to 4 million passengers per year and to 1,000 passengers during peak hours, he added.

Dien also suggested that VietJet should consider starting new flights from Hai Phong to South Korea, Japan, Thailand and Hong Kong, as the city hopes to welcome more foreign visitors, particularly from these countries, which have also been large investors in the city during recent years.

VietJet had launched a flight connecting HCM City with Hai Phong in October 2012. The airline also plans this year to raise the number of flights on the same route to five trips per week. — VNS
