HCM CITY — Opella has become the first global consumer healthcare company to achieve B Corp certification, after meeting the rigorous social and environmental standards set by nonprofit B Lab.

This certification follows an intensive four-year transformation effort, during which Opella has redefined its approach to sustainability, innovation, and governance in all countries across its global operations. The company excelled in areas such as climate action, product sustainability, community health, and leadership accountability.

“Becoming B Corp certified globally is just the beginning of our sustainability journey,” said Julie Van Ongevalle, Opella President and CEO. “It’s a commitment to redefining self-care by showing that business success and sustainability must go hand in hand.”

Its key milestones include a 64 per cent reduction in Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions since 2019 and sourcing over 93 per cent of electricity from renewable energy. In 2024, 97 per cent of Opella’s paper-based packaging came from certified or recycled materials. Since 2022, partnerships with NGOs have supported over one million people, and health education campaigns reached 129 million individuals in 2024.

Valentina Belcheva, general manager for Việt Nam and Cambodia, said: “The Global B Corp Certification reinforces our commitment to sustainability as a leading player in the consumer healthcare industry. With Việt Nam as a key growth market, and home to our manufacturing site and research & development centre, we have made meaningful progress in sustainability across both environmental and social pillars.”

Since 2023, Opella’s site in Việt Nam has run on 100 per cent renewable energy and aims to achieve net-zero Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2027. The site is landfill-free and is reducing plastic use through reusable and recycled packaging. Water-saving initiatives include wastewater reuse and rainwater harvesting for non-production purposes.

Aligned with its mission to make self-care as simple as it should be, Opella continues to promote health literacy and self-care through strategic partnerships, professional training, and public education.

Since 2022, through its Enterogermina brand, it has worked with the Hope Foundation to build 60 sanitation facilities in underserved communities for over 40,000 students and teachers, with 20 more to be built in Quảng Bình Province in 2025.

Internally, Opella champions inclusion and employee wellbeing with hybrid work, parental leave, and tailored development plans. — VNS
