The Viet Nam Television Corporation (VTC), a unit of Voice of Viet Nam (VOV), on Tuesday announced that it has earned the right to broadcast all sporting events within the Asian Games (ASIAD) 2018.
The deal was reached with the support of property developer Vingroup and Viettel Military Industry and Telecoms Group.
From Wednesday, Vietnamese audiences can watch all games played by Viet Nam during the ASIAD 2018 live on VTC channels, or smart phones and smart TV through the firm’s app VTC Now, or on its online newspapers at vov.vn and vtc.vn. They can also listen to live broadcasts of all sporting events on VOV radio channels.
In addition, Vietnamese fans will also be able to watch all games through Viettel’s channels such as Onme, ViettelTV, Mocha, Keeng, Netnews and Tiin.
Viettel’s representative said the deal shows its responsibility to the community which has been part of its regular activities for years.
On Monday, VOV started the process of purchasing ASIAD broadcasting rights. However, the company owning the rights in Viet Nam is located in the US, making it difficult for the two sides to conduct direct discussions until Monday afternoon. The deal between the two sides was signed and announced in Jakarta, Indonesia, on Tuesday after successful negotiations on Monday evening.
The ASIAD 2018 entered the third day of competition on Tuesday. So far, Viet Nam ranks 16th in the medal tally with two silver and four bronze medals. Notably, Viet Nam’s male football teams qualified for the next round after winning all group matches.
Earlier, in June, Viettel and VinGroup sponsored Viet Nam Television (VTV) to buy the 2018 World Cup broadcasting rights. — VNS
