VICEM But Son Cement JSC on Thursday started construction of a project to take advantage of excess heat from exhaust gas of line 1 and line 2 for electricity generation in the northern province of Ha Nam’s Kim Bang District.

Do Tien Trinh, the company’s general director, said the project has a total investment of VND454 billion (US$18.9 million) with a capacity of 12MW.

The company signed a contract with AMECC Construction Mechanical Joint Stock Company – SINOMA consortium to supply design, equipment, materials and other technical services. It also signed a construction contract with AMECC. The project is expected to be completed by the end of this year.

Trinh said the system has many advantages such as taking advantage of excess heat without consuming fuel to generate electricity, reducing greenhouse gases and dust, increasing equipment use efficiency; reducing operating costs and increasing profits. It could provide 25-30 per cent of the total electricity used in the whole factory. On average, the system could produce 90-100kWh.

Bui Xuan Dung, chairman of Viet Nam Cement Industry Corporation (VICEM), said the investment into the project at VICEM But Son Cement JSC is necessary to follow the corporation's strategy of sustainable development and environmental protection.

The company now has two production lines with total capacity of 3.4 million tonnes of cement a year. — VNS
