Thai Vietjet continues international expansion

In September, Thai Vietjet increased its frequency of flights on major domestic routes Bangkok-Phuket, Bangkok-Chiang Mai and Phuket-Chiang Rai. The move is aimed at better serving travel demand of local and international passengers.

Thai Vietjet will announce its international expansion plan for flights from Bangkok to new destinations in Viet Nam, China and Taiwan once it obtains the new Air Operator Certificate (AOC).

The certificate is expected in October.

The carrier is undergoing the AOC recertification process, which is conducted by the Civil Aviation Authority International (CAAI) and the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT).

Chula Sukmanop, director general of CAAT, said the airline will be granted the new AOC in October following completion of the assessment, and may start international services soon after.

Thai Vietjet was established in Thailand in 2013. It is a joint venture between Viet Nam’s fastest growing carrier Vietjet and Thai airline Kan Air. Vietjet holds 49 per cent stake, while the remainder is owned by the Thai partner.

Thai Vietjet, earlier, obtained an AOC for both domestic and international passenger and cargo services.

The airline has to date transported almost 800,000 international and domestic passengers, and will expand its flight network in the 2017 winter season to Krabi, Hat Yai (Thailand) and new destinations in China, Taiwan and Viet Nam. — VNS
