This year, Standard Chartered Vietnam celebrates its 120th anniversary in the country, reaffirming its unwavering commitment to the nation's journey.

Since its establishment in Việt Nam in 1904, the bank has been a trusted partner to clients, the community and the market. Standard Chartered Vietnam will organise a series of events and activities to mark the milestone including key highlights: the inaugural Standard Chartered Hanoi Marathon Heritage Race, an event celebrating the area’s rich culture and heritage; and the Painting competition “Here for good” which inspires creativity for all children living in Việt Nam, featuring their feelings on good actions and behaviours in life.

The Standard Chartered Cup 2024 offers a lifetime opportunity to Việt Nam, for Vietnamese amateur footballers and football fans, with the grand prize being a tour around Anfield stadium and professional training session at the LFC academy hosted by LFC legends and coaches.

SC Games 2024, an internal sports competition for all the bank’s colleagues in markets in Asia, will be organised in Việt Nam for the first time.

Michele Wee, CEO Standard Chartered Vietnam, said: “Việt Nam remains a key growth market for Standard Chartered, and we will continue to invest in Việt Nam to drive commerce and prosperity. Over the past 120 years, we have witnessed Việt Nam's incredible transformation, and we are proud to have been a part of this journey. We will continue to be a trusted partner, driving commerce, lifting participation and supporting Việt Nam's ambitious vision for an inclusive, sustainable and prosperous future.”

The bank’s three strategic pillars – driving net zero, lifting participation and resetting globalisation – guide its mission to create a more just and prosperous world. The bank is the leader in this endeavour driving the sustainability agenda and leading the way in sustainable development for our clients and the broader economy. Standard Chartered is a fervent supporter and aligned with the Vietnamese Government’s ambitions to reach Net Zero by 2050. Being a partner with the Vietnamese government since COP26, the bank together with all-encompassing stakeholder groups from the Government to the private sector have been executing the different verticals of work under the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP) to deliver on collective ambitions to reach net-zero emissions by 2050. With a 120-year history in Việt Nam, Standard Chartered’s core competence is to leverage and utilise its significant network to deliver FDI to Việt Nam and to facilitate Vietnamese clients who want to expand into global markets to pursue growth ambition. — VNS
