Shinhan Bank Viet Nam (Shinhan Bank) has spent more than VND400 million (US$17,230) to support people affected by drought and salt water intrusion and the COVID-19 pandemic in the Cuu Long (Mekong) Delta through a range of meaningful activities.

The bank has provided clean water and food to more than 1,500 households in the three provinces of Long An, Tien Giang and Ben Tre in areas affected by water shortage.

Each province has received around 1,500 barrels of 18 cubic metres of water, 500 boxes of instant noodles, 10 water tanks with a capacity of 500 liters for 10 disadvantaged households, and 500 letters of encouragement.

Shin Dong Min, CEO of the bank, said: “We want to share the burden with Mekong Delta people and give encouragement to help them overcome this challenging period.”

Scholarships worth VND14 million ($603) in cash with backpacks, milk, notebooks and pens have been given to 14 underprivileged students with outstanding academic performance in Long An Province’s Tan Tru District.

More than 100 sets of gifts and medical items have been given to medical staff and military men at the isolation site in Can Tho City, including 15,000 medical face masks, 5,000 pairs of medical gloves, 150 medical suits and 9,500 bottles of hand sanitisers.

Earlier, Shinhan Bank donated VND5 billion ($215,400) for COVID-19 prevention and control through the Committee of Vietnam Fatherland Front, presented 200 gifts and medical supplies to medical staff and soldiers in Lang Son Province, and purchased more than 16.5 tonnes of watermelon to support local farmers facing hard times due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The bank has so far donated VND50 billion ($2.2 million) to social activities in Viet Nam. — VNS
