HCM CITY (Biz Hub) — Aeon, the largest retailer in Japan, will open a second mall in the city's Binh Tan District in July, following the success of its first mall in Tan Phu District.
Yasuo Nishitohge, general director of Aeon Viet Nam, said the Aeon Mall Binh Tan, which costs approximately US$120 million, is being developed on 4.6ha of land, making it much larger than the Aeon Mall Tan Phu Celadon, which attracts some 1 million visitors per month, Saigon Times reported.
Aeon has two other malls as well: one in neighboring Binh Duong Province and the other in Ha Noi. Investment capital for the four malls totals around $500 million. The company strives to open 20 malls across the country by 2020.
Aeon has a system of 250 subsidiaries, with total annual sales of 6 trillion yen (around $60.5 billion), earning a total profit of some 200 billion yen (some $2 billion).
Aeon is currently operating in 14 countries and territories, including Viet Nam. Viet Nam is the third country after Malaysia and China that Aeon has entered with large shopping malls.— VNS
