HCM CITY — Sanofi Vietnam, in collaboration with the HCM City Pediatric Cardiology & Congenital Heart Disease Society, and Children's Hospital 1, organised "Rare Disease Day 2025" to raise public awareness about rare diseases and promote the healthcare system's efforts towards the rare disease patient community.
Under the theme "Puzzle Pieces," medical experts gave updates on advancements and challenges in the diagnosis and treatment of rare diseases. They also addressed the urgency of enhancing management and improving diagnostic and therapeutic approaches for rare diseases in Việt Nam.
Several young patients and their families also attended and shared their arduous journeys of seeking diagnosis and treatment.
As an organisation that has been supporting rare disease patients in Việt Nam for nearly three decades, Sanofi has sponsored numerous activities to update diagnostic and treatment knowledge for medical professionals, supported high-risk screening to facilitate early diagnosis of certain inborn errors of metabolism, and participated in dialogues and collaborations among stakeholders to build sustainable national policies for rare diseases.
Furthermore, Sanofi empowers the rare disease patient community by providing free enzyme replacement therapy to many patients who lack access to medication, through the International Charitable Access Programme (ICAP) launched in 1997. As of 2025, the programme has supported hundreds of patients with a total budget of hundreds of billions of Vietnamese đồng each year.
Didier Martin, head of Pharma, Sanofi Viet Nam, expressed a long-term commitment: "Sanofi has been, is, and will continue to accompany the rare disease community to provide better medical care conditions, more effective diagnostic and treatment opportunities. Although rare diseases are uncommon and treatments are scarce, the support and companionship from society are not. Sanofi believes that collective strength will help raise awareness of rare diseases, thereby opening up a brighter future for patients." — VNS
