Choi Joo Ho, president of Samsung Vietnam Complex, has been granted the Friendship Order by the President of the Socialist Republic of Việt Nam for his outstanding contributions to the development of friendly relations between Việt Nam and South Korea.
This is a special medal of Việt Nam for foreign individuals and organisations that have made significant contributions to building, consolidating and developing partnership between Việt Nam and countries around the world.
Choi started working in Việt Nam in December 2018 as the president of Samsung Vietnam Complex, overseeing the operations of six manufacturing factories, a research and development centre, and a sales branch of Samsung in Việt Nam. He is also Samsung's representative in Việt Nam in co-operative relations with the Government and localities.
He is recognised for his significant contributions in promoting the successful construction of Samsung's leading Southeast Asia Research and Development Centre in Việt Nam, laying a solid foundation to elevate Việt Nam beyond being a global production hub to becoming a strategic research and development location for Samsung globally.
The Samsung Research and Development Centre in Việt Nam played an important role in making Vietnamese one of the first 13 languages supported in the AI translation feature integrated into the newly launched Samsung Galaxy S24 phone series.
During the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak, he worked tirelessly alongside the Vietnamese Government and local authorities to achieve the goal of 'preventing production disruption'. Especially, he co-ordinated with relevant agencies to implement a "Special Entry" policy for over 7,000 Korean experts to come to Việt Nam to assist in technology transfer for the production of new products.
In addition, he has also made significant contributions in implementing social responsibility activities for the Vietnamese community, aimed at nurturing future generations of talent and boosting the competitiveness of the Vietnamese industry.
In 2019, Samsung officially launched the Solve for Tomorrow programme to encourage the application of STEM education and creative problem-solving skills for Vietnamese students. After five years of implementation, the programme has attracted the participation of over 300,000 students and teachers. Also starting from 2019, after five years of implementing the Samsung Innovation Campus project, Samsung has provided approximately 6,000 Vietnamese youths with technology courses in areas such as Coding and Programming (C&P), Artificial Intelligence (AI), Big Data, Internet of Things (IoT), and more.
He has made positive contributions to the implementation of activities aimed at enhancing the competitive capabilities of Vietnamese enterprises.
Choi said: “Representing over 100,000 Samsung Vietnam employees in receiving the State President's Friendship Order is a great honour for me. Above all, I would like to express my deepest gratitude towards the Government of Việt Nam for their enthusiastic support in Samsung’s relentless development journey over time. Samsung will continue to accompany Việt Nam, not only as the largest foreign investment enterprise in exports, but also to become a business beloved by the Vietnamese people. In addition, Samsung will continue to implement activities in Việt Nam based on the accompanying philosophy of the Chairman ‘Sharing and growing together is the path to a beautiful world.” — VNS
