Sacombank, in collaboration with the Viet Nam Youth Federation, has restarted the online walking/running programme “Steps for the Community” after being delayed by one year due to the pandemic.

The 2022 online walking/running programme will have five stages that will be organised from April to December in Son La, Dien Bien, Lai Chau, Ha Giang, and Tuyen Quang to raise funds to build a community cultural house for ethnic minorities.

The programme will take place on a national scale and is open to anyone to participate. For each kilometre a participant walks or runs, Sacombank will contribute VND1,000 to the fund.

The programme’s fourth stage opened in Son La on April 16 to raise funds for a community cultural house for the La Ha ethnic minority as well as to celebrate the 47th anniversary of the Southern Liberation Day and 132 years since President Ho Chi Minh was born, attracting over 40,600 particpants.

The programme’s registration portal sacombankrunnersclub.com has officially reopened and recorded participants' contributions until midnight on May 8, 2022.

The programme does not specify the registered distance, and particpants can walk or run.

At this stage, the 200 runners with the highest cumulative distance will receive a T-shirt and a certificate from the Viet Nam Youth Federation and an embossed medal.

The previous three stages of the programme were held with more than 75,000 people participating, contributing VND3 billion to build three community culture houses for the Lu, Chut and Lo Lo ethnic minorities in Lai Chau, Quang Binh and Cao Bang.

Currently, Sacombank and the Viet Nam Youth Federation have completed construction and opened the Community Cultural House for the Lu ethnic minority in Lai Chau. — VNS
