The Korean International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and the World Vision Foundation of South Korea launched a project to develop the organic farm and produce local value chain in Trieu Phong District of Quang Tri Province onTuesday.

The project will be carried out from now to 2019 in five communes: Trieu Trach, Trieu Tai, Trieu Trung, Trieu Thuong, and Trieu Son, with a total investment of nearly US$1 million, vietnamplus.vn reports.

As many as 4,200 people from 1,000 local households are expected to benefit from the project, which will support farmers with advanced farming techniques and environmental protection while putting an end to the use of pesticides in agricultural production.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD), organic production is in demand in Viet Nam, whose geographic and social features are suitable to organically produce rice, tea, vegetables and fruit.

The MARD will work to promote Vietnamese organic goods domestically and internationally, it said, adding that the agency and the Ministry of Science and Technology will study the difficulties organic firms face. — VNS
