Ten teams with 30 chef trainees participated in a US poultry and potato cooking contest held on Friday in HCM City.

The contest was part of one-day event held by the HCM City-based A Au Vocational Guidance Corporation in coordination with the USA Poultry & Eggs Exports Council and the Potatoes USA.

It aimed to promote new uses and applications for US chicken and potatoes. Participating teams cooked two dishes using US chicken and potatoes and had chances to win three prizes worth a total of VND5 million (US$218) for healthy and delicious dishes.

Students had a chance to practise and show their cooking ideas and innovations.

Renowned chef Norbert Ehrbar, advisor to the Viet Nam Culinary Conservation, Research and Development Centre and co-founder of the Saigon Professional Chefs' Guild, shared his culinary expertise and knowledge of good practice guidelines for storage, preparation, cooking, and serving of food to ensure food safety and hygiene.

Habits and cooking methods following international standards were also taught to trainees during his cooking demonstration.
