Petrovietnam Power Corporation (PV Power), a member of Petrovietnam, has been cooperating with South Korea's EN Technologies Inc to develop an electric vehicle charging station network in Việt Nam.

PV Power has built its first pilot EV charging station on Hà Nội's Huỳnh Thúc Kháng Street. Spanning over 30sq.m, the station is worth over VNĐ1.8 billion (over US$71,000). With a total capacity of 100-120 kW, the station is expected to come into operation this month.

The company said it will deploy two more pilot EV charging stations along the city's Trần Duy Hưng Street.

After a trial, PV Power will evaluate the stations based on technology, operation, safety, customer assessment and efficiency to make appropriate adjustments. It plans to develop 1,000 charging stations nationwide by 2035. This is also a step of PV Power in line with Petrovietnam's energy transition orientation.

To ensure the effective development of EV charging stations, the company suggested that Việt Nam needs to develop comprehensive policies, legal frameworks, and technical standards and regulations.

In addition, the early establishment of an electricity price mechanism for charging stations will not only attract investors but also encourage people to use electric vehicles instead of gasoline-powered vehicles, it suggested.— VNS
