Poor students receive free bicyles

The Viet Nam Red Cross in collaboration with the Sai Gon – Ha Noi Commercial Joint Stock Bank (SHB) and Dai-ichi Life Viet Nam handed over 33 bicycles to poor and disadvantaged students in Duy Tien District, Ha Nam Province on Wednesday.

The donation is part of SHB’s humanitarian programme, called ‘SHB shares love, lights up the future’, to support poor and disadvantaged students.

“We hope the new bikes that will help them shorten the distance from home to school, helping children and their parents to reduce difficulties and creating motivation for them to strive and train, soon becoming the future owners of the country,” SHB General Director Nguyen Van Le said.

Beginning in December 2018, the programme has awarded 330 bicycles with a total value of more than VND500 million (US$21,700) to poor and disadvantaged students in the north of Viet Nam, including Quang Ninh, Hai Phong, Ha Nam, Hung Yen, Ninh Binh, Tuyen Quang provinces and Ha Noi. — VNS
