Lê Ngọc Sơn, born in 1972, has three decades of experience in the oil and gas industry, having held various positions.
The Members' Council of Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (Petrovietnam) announced on Monday the appointment of Lê Ngọc Sơn as its new General Director for a five-year term, effective immediately upon signing.
Previously, on March 15, the Chairman of the State Capital Management Committee at the enterprise issued the decision appointing Sơn, who previously served as Deputy General Director of Petrovietnam, as a member of the group's Board of Directors.
Lê Ngọc Sơn, born in 1972, has three decades of experience in the oil and gas industry, having held various positions. He holds a Master's degree in Oil and Gas Field Evaluation and Management and is an engineer specialised in petroleum drilling technology.
Prior to assuming the role of General Director, Sơn served as the Head of the group’s Oil and Gas Exploitation Department and as General Director of Phú Quốc Petroleum Operating Company (Phú Quốc POC).
Sơn's predecessor, Lê Mạnh Hùng, has been appointed Chairman of the group since January 1 this year.
One of Petrovietnam’s and Sơn’s top priorities this year is the development of the Block B-Ô Môn gas power project chain, in which the group is involved in all three stages comprising upstream, pipeline construction and power plant investment. This project is familiar territory for Sơn, given his past leadership at Phú Quốc POC.
The Block B-Ô Môn B project, situated in southwest Việt Nam, is regarded as one of the nation's key projects, with a total investment of nearly US$12 billion. It is anticipated to supply 5.06 billion cubic meters of gas per year to generate up to 3,800MW of electricity. — VNS
