HÀ NỘI — Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (Petrovietnam) and its subsidiaries are committed to completing the Long Phú 1 Thermal Power Plant project in Sóc Trăng Province ahead of schedule, targeting completion before 2027.

Chairman of Petrovietnam, Lê Mạnh Hùng, highlighted the group's commitment to mobilising all resources, including government support, to speed up the project's completion during Monday's ceremony.

In case of necessity, a special mechanism can be issued to facilitate the project's implementation, while mobilising appropriate resources to ensure prompt reporting to competent authorities for assistance in resolving challenges.

“Notably, Petrovietnam has thoroughly decentralised and authorised the executive board and the management board of the Long Phú 1 Oil and Gas Power project. It aims to expedite personnel arrangements, legal procedures and decision-making during implementation,” Hùng said.

Chairman Hùng also called on local authorities for their cooperation to meet the national energy security objectives and support economic growth targets.

Head of the Long Phú 1 Power project management board, Hà Đình Niên, said that once the feasibility study for the project is approved, efforts will immediately focus on contractor selection and rational allocation of bidding packages. This approach seeks to maximise the capabilities of domestic contractors and those affiliated with Petrovietnam.

The management board will finalise the remaining parts and legal procedures for the main factory's equipment and boiler bidding packages by February. The plan is to implement it concurrently in the second quarter of 2025.

With a capacity of 1,200 MW, the Long Phú 1 Thermal Power Plant will supply about seven billion kWh annually to the national grid. This project will meet a significant portion of Việt Nam's electricity demand, supporting economic and social development in Sóc Trăng Province and the Mekong Delta region.

According to Decision No. 262/QĐ-TTg by the Prime Minister, which approved the Implementation Plan for Power Development Plan VIII, the Long Phú 1 Thermal Power Plant project is scheduled for completion by 2027. — VNS
