E-wallet MoMo and its users have donated about VND800 million (US$34,500) to support medical workers in Da Nang and border guards in An Giang.

With Da Nang as the country’s latest epicentre of the virus, and tens of thousands of doctors and health workers on the front line, MoMo pioneered the campaign "Together with Da Nang, millions of people donate to beat the pandemic".

The campaign started on August 4, racking up thousands of donations and raising more than VND750 million in just 15 days.

According to MoMo, the donated money will be used to provide essential medical equipment for the teams at four major hospitals.

MoMo has contributed VND100 from each payment of electricity, water, internet and mobile bills made through the system.

In addition to helping the medical workers in Da Nang, MoMo also cooperated with An Giang Provincial Youth Union to launch the campaign "Helping the An Giang border guard prevent COVID-19 from crossing the border” in order to provide equipment for the checkpoints and young volunteers along the border with Cambodia.

The e-wallet also gave more than VND35 million to fund supplies for border guard forces, who work day and night along the nearly-100km border with Cambodia.

Nguyen Ba Diep, deputy chairman and co-founder of MoMo, said: “Vietnamese people are always ready to share difficulties with the Government and forces directly fighting the pandemic. In this campaign, we draw on national strength to support Da Nang and An Giang.”

In the first wave of the pandemic, MoMo launched the "Great little thing" from April 8 to May 31 and successfully collected more than VND2.6 billion to support doctors, nurses and medical students who fought COVID-19 in Ha Noi and HCM City. — VNS
