The Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) recently organised two networking events for nearly 100 members of Chartered Accountants Worldwide (CAW) in HCM City and Ha Noi.
As the 3rd networking meeting of ICAEW members in Viet Nam since the first in 2016, the event aims to promote the strong development of the Chartered Accountant community in Viet Nam.
At the event, UK Prime Minister’s Trade Envoy for Thailand, Myanmar, Brunei and Viet Nam, Mark Garnier MP, highly appreciated the ICAEW’s initiative to organise a networking event, particularly in the context that the two countries are celebrating the 50th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic. He also reaffirmed the commitment to promote and further strengthen the cooperation relationship in trade and investment between the UK and Viet Nam.
“As the world’s global financial centre, the UK has long-term cooperation with Vietnam, jointly developing financial services and professional services in Viet Nam through prestigious professional organizations such as ICAEW. I am very pleased to see ICAEW's significant contributions over the years to promote international integration of the accounting and finance industry in particular, as well as the Vietnamese economy”, said Mark Garnier MP.
He also emphasised that Viet Nam is in the process of deep international integration, and the young labour force is one of Viet Nam’s great advantages. Therefore, equipping the workforce with globally recognised professional qualifications and skills is important for Viet Nam's further success in the integration process.
Addressing the event in Ha Noi, British Ambassador to Viet Nam Iain Frew noted 2023 is a special year in Viet Nam – UK relations as it marks the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two countries, through a focus on Education, Trade, and Sustainability – all of which are key to both countries’ future.
“Education is an important area of the partnership that has made several achievements, and there is still ample room for further growth,” said Ambassador Frew.
Ambassador Frew highly appreciated ICAEW's initiative to organise a networking event to connect Chartered Accountants in Viet Nam, as well as ICAEW's contributions to promoting the partnership between Viet Nam and the UK. The skills and international certificates and professional qualifications, as well as the experience and expertise that ICAEW brings to Viet Nam, have made a great contribution to the development of Viet Nam's accounting and finance sector.
“I would like to say thank ICAEW for its great efforts in the battle against climate change in the UK and also in Viet Nam,” added Ambassador Iain Frew.
On the side of ICAEW, Mark Billington, Managing Director, International, shared 5 strategic themes of ICAEW with Chartered Accountants in Viet Nam. First of all, it is to strengthen trust in ICAEW Chartered Accountants and the wider profession; the second is to help achieve the Sustainable Development Goals; the third is to support the transformation of trade and the economy; the fourth is to master technology and data and finally strengthening the profession by attracting talent and building diversity.
