Heineken Vietnam in collaboration with the People's Committee of Than Uyen District, Lai Chau Province on Friday started construction of domestic water project in Khoen On Commune, Than Uyen District.

This is the 24th water project that the business has sponsored across the country. The VND300 million (US$12,900) aims to provide local people in Khoen On Commune access to safe water.

Khoen On is located in a mountainous area and home to many ethnic minority groups. Currently, people use river or stream water that hasn’t been treated. This water source also becomes exhausted during the dry season.

The project includes five wells for residents in Khoen On Commune that will give them access to a stable source of clean water.

“This is a very important project for the community as it meets the urgent need for regular access to clean water. We highly appreciate Heineken Vietnam’s efforts to proactively support the improvement of local infrastructure and hope that more water stations will come to people in remote areas of Lai Chau Province as well as across Viet Nam," said Vice Chairman of Than Uyen District People’s Committee Vuong The Man.

“At Heineken Vietnam, water is an essential resource and we believe everyone should have reliable access to clean and safe water,” Corporate Affairs Director of Heineken Vietnam Matt Wilson said.

Wilson said the business will also carry out a series of training sessions for farmers and local residents on how to save water, the proper use of fertilisers and waste treatment from daily agricultural production for communities in remote and mountainous areas. — VNS
