Gojek, Southeast Asia’s leading mobile on-demand services platform, has announced the launch of a cashless payment feature on its app in Viet Nam.

Users now have the option of using Visa, Mastercard and JCB credit and debit cards to pay for transport and online food delivery services on the app.

The launch is part of Gojek’s response to users’ feedback requesting more payment options, especially with the growing shift to contactless and digital payments amid the COVID-19 pandemic, and the government’s efforts to move towards a cashless society.

Phung Tuan Duc, general manager of Gojek Vietnam, said: “Cashless payments is one of the most important launches for Gojek Vietnam this year. Our users have expressed their desire for digital payment options, especially with the COVID-19 pandemic accelerating the shift to cashless.

“We’re pleased to make it faster and easier for users paying for our services while ensuring their safety. Looking ahead, we will continue to expand our digital payment options, including by launching an e-wallet in the near future, so that millions of Vietnamese people can enjoy the benefits of the digital economy.”

Gojek is committed to complying with the State Bank of Viet Nam’s regulations and the highest level of PCI DSS (Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard), which is a set of requirements governed by the Payment Card Industry Security Standards Council to ensure the security of card data.

Besides, the company does not store users’ international card number information and instead uses a special sequence of characters encoded from the card number to increase data security.

Gojek’s security system can also identify unusual transactions, block such transactions immediately and alert users.

As part of the launch, Gojek is rolling out new promotions to encourage digital transactions.

Users who pay for their GoFood order by credit or debit cards will receive a discount of VND30,000 - VND40,000 on their order until December 31.

Users just need to add their cards to the list of payment methods on the Gojek app to start cashless payment, and enjoy more promotions. — VNS
