The Vinmec Times City International Hospital officially opened its robotic surgery clinic as the first private centre in Viet Nam on Saturday with skilled experts trained by leading robotic surgery training centres in France, South Korea and Hong Kong.

“Vinmec is the first medical facility in Viet Nam to apply robotic surgery in treating gynaecological diseases. The advanced techniques offer optimal choices in surgery for treating endometrial, cervical cancers and womb tumors,” said hospital director Prof. Bui Duc Phu.

The centre is equipped with the Da Vinci surgical system manufactured by US-based Intuitive Surgical.

The advanced system has four arms that can simulate most human hand movements. It helps surgeons to perform more precise removal of cancer tissue, less risk of complications, infections, blood loss and shorten hospital stays compared to traditional surgery.

The Minitry of Health’s Medical Examination and Treatment Department director Luong Ngoc Khue said that the centre will open more treatment options for patients in Viet Nam.

Khue said that no robotic surgical accidents had been reported since the advanced technique was introduced in Viet Nam in 2014.

Four State-owned hospitals had already deployed robotic surgical techniques, including Binh Dan and Cho Ray in HCM City; Bach Mai, National Paediatrics and Viet Duc in Ha Noi, according to Khue. — VNS
