E-wallet firm MoMo hires Indian chairman


Local e-wallet firm MoMo has hired an Indian technology expert as its chairman in a bid to turn the wallet into the first 'super app' in Viet Nam.

Local e-wallet firm MoMo has hired an Indian technology expert as its chairman in a bid to turn the wallet into the first 'super app' in Viet Nam.

Anthony Thomas joined MoMo this year and has in-depth knowledge of the banking and finance industry with more than 22 years of experience in the finance - banking and payment sector.

He previously held key leadership positions for Citibank's Global Consumer Group in many countries including India, America, South Korea and the Philippines and was CEO of the largest electronic wallet firm in the Philippines (Gcash, Mynt wallet) for more than five years.

A representative of MoMo said: "The recruitment of Indian leaders is a global trend. Technology businesses are led by Indian CEOs such as Google with Sundar Pichai, Microsoft with Satya Nadella, Mastercard with Ajaypal Singh Banga and IBM with Arvind Krishna.”

Manisha Shah, another India national, joined MoMo in 2018, as the Chief Financial Officer (CFO). With an MBA from Harvard Business School, she is in charge of Finance - Accounting, Internal Management, Procurement and Human Resources.

Also owning an MBA at Harvard University, Nguyen Vu Duc, co-founder and former CEO of GoViet is now the firm's deputy general director, in charge of Banking Cooperation and P2P Money Transfer.— VNS
