BINH THUAN (Biz Hub) — FrieslandCampina Viet Nam's Dutch Lady brand has begun construction of Ham Can Kindergarten in Ha Can Commune in the south-central province of Binh Thuan.

It is the company's 20th Den Dom Dom (Glowworm Light) school.

Ham Cam is being built with funding from a programme called "one milk pack – one brick" that seeks to improve academic conditions for disadvantaged children.

When it is completed in November, the school will admit nearly 100 local children, many of whom now study in poor conditions with no water closet or kitchen.

Dutch Lady launched the programme in March this year, under which it contributes the cost of a brick automatically to the fund when a customer buys a pack of milk.

The Den Dom Dom programme has been pursued since 2002 to prevent students from dropping out due to their families' difficult economic situation.

Under the programme, Dutch Lady has given over 25,000 scholarships and built 19 schools. — VNS
