More than 4,000 students and teachers from five primary schools that were affected by heavy floods and the COVID pandemic in Da Nang have benefited from the 'Building Healthy' school programme.

The schools in Hoa Vang District have been given a total of VND1.1 billion (US$49,700) in funding from the commercial real estate CBRE Viet Nam’s COVID-19 rescue fund.

The project, which was implemented by the East Meets West Foundation (EMWF), will provide school facilities, repair flood-destroyed infrastructure items, install drinkable water systems and provide information on how to disaster-resilient in the future, as well as raise awareness on daily cleaning habits among school students and teachers.

Dinh Ngoc Khanh Ha, a senior manager of the CBRE Viet Nam, said it’s a good opportunity for the company to work with school students in the flood-damaged Hoa Vang district of Da Nang.

She said the project will set up a firm foundation for the school and knowledge on natural disasters and pandemic prevention manners among students, teachers and local people.

Last year, EMWF also began a waste-free school model as part of the Building Healthy City (BHC) programme, to create a healthy and clean study environment for school students in the city.

The foundation also helped support disadvantaged high school students with English proficiency, communication and life skills, and scholarships for poor students in central Viet Nam. — VNS
