Hybrid carrier Bamboo Airways operated its 10,000th flight on Sunday on an Airbus A321neo aircraft.

The new aircraft joined the carrier with a new appearance and equipped with a new Leap 1A engine from CFM, allowing the aircraft to reduce its fuel consumption by up to 15 per cent.

Produced in 2018, this was the fourth Airbus A321neo delivered to Bamboo Airways this year as part of its progress towards gradually expanding its fleet size from 10 planes to 30 by 2023 as approved by the Government.

The airline operated its 10,000th flight on Sunday from HCM City to Hà Nội.

The flight continues to emphasise protecting the environment by limiting disposable plastic products and replacing them with recycled or biodegradable materials.

This was also Việt Nam's first flight integrated with the most advanced wireless entertainment technology – Bamboo Sky – to allow passengers to access an entertainment library from their personal computers, tablets and smartphones without an internet connection.

Bamboo Sky was jointly developed by Bamboo Airways, Touch Aero and Airfi Aero – two companies providing the world's most prestigious wireless entertainment and broadcasting equipment. They also provide in-flight entertainment systems for many four and five star airlines around the world.

Bùi Quang Dũng, deputy general director of Bamboo Airways, said the meaningful event opened the prospect for the airline's stronger and faster development in the coming years.

One year after launching, Bamboo Airways operates 25 domestic and international flight routes, transporting more than one million passengers and maintaining an on-time rate of 95 per cent – the highest rate in the country’s aviation sector in the first half of the year. The airline now accounts for a 7 per cent market share of the local aviation industry.

The ceremony was part of a series of events celebrating the airline’s first year of operation. As part of the celebrations, Bamboo Airways Golf Tournament 2019 is also taking place at FLC Golf Links Samson. — VNS
