Dutch multinational paints and coatings manufacturer AkzoNobel opened new production facilities at its Bắc Ninh site on March 1 to increase its capacity to respond to global demands and strengthen its market position in Asia.

There are five new lines for producing powder coatings and one for waterborne coatings for the consumer electronics market.

The company said the €18.5 million (US$20 million) expansion would also sharpen its focus on sustainable manufacturing in the Vietnamese market and region.

Jeff Jirak, managing director of AkzoNobel’s Powder Coatings, said: "Việt Nam is increasingly becoming a destination for global businesses. By investing in five additional modern production lines at the Bắc Ninh site, the company anticipates providing better services and paving the way for a sustainable future, particularly in the northern part of Việt Nam.

“Furthermore, by allowing the Đồng Nai site to focus on supporting volume growth in the southern region of Việt Nam, AkzoNobel can optimize its manufacturing processes to meet the diverse needs of the Vietnamese market.”

Şirvan Canıtez, regional commercial director for the Powder Coatings Business, South Asia-Pacific, AkzoNobel, said: “We desire to support the growth of our customers every step of the way. Besides expanding our capacity for powder coatings, we focus on streamlining operations and adopting cutting-edge manufacturing technologies to make our processes more sustainable.

“With the addition of five new production lines, we can better assist the future business endeavours of our partners, ensuring an enhanced experience from services to products.”

AkzoNobel built its Bắc Ninh plant in 2010 for producing powder coatings and automotive and specialty coatings.

The new production facilities are focused on meeting high standards in sustainable production and supporting the company’s target of halving carbon emissions by 2030. — VNS
