HCM CITY — Four new Cargill Cares schools to provide improved educational facilities for nearly 400 students in some of Việt Nam’s most disadvantaged northern regions have been opened, Cargill announced on May 12.

They include Dân Chủ Kindergarten in Thái Bình Province, Tủa Thàng 2 Kindergarten in Điện Biên, Xuân Ái Kindergarten in Yên Bái, and Tả Củ Tỷ Kindergarten in Lào Cai.

They cost VNĐ7.1 billion (US$273,570) and were built as part of celebrations of its 30th anniversary in Việt Nam.

Cargill launched the Cargill Cares school building programme in 1996 with a pledge to build 100 schools in 25 years, but has since extended that to 150 schools by 2030.

It has so far delivered 121 schools, and 36 school libraries, benefiting over 18,000 students annually in 57 provinces, at a cost of more than $6 million.

It is currently building one each in the provinces of Quảng Bình, Quảng Trị, Khánh Hòa, and Gia Lai, and they are scheduled for completion later this year.

Luân Nguyễn, country president of Cargill in Vietnam, said: “Through the Cargill Cares school programme, we are investing in the next generation and helping communities thrive.

“Our journey here has always been about more than business. It has been about building trust, sharing growth and making a lasting difference in people’s lives.” — VNS
