MobiFone Corporation won the auction for the right to use the radio frequency band 3,800-3,900MHz for 5G, with an amount of more than VNĐ2.58 trillion (US$1.06 billion).

The Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC) awarded the contract to MobiFone under Decision No 1219/QĐ-BTTTT on July 20, approving the results of the auction for the radio frequency spectrum usage rights (C3 band).

The company will be allowed to use the spectrum block for 15 years.

The bid amount - money for granting rights to use radio frequencies for the entire term of the frequency band - is more than VNĐ2.58 trillion.

Previously, MobiFone won the re-auction of the right to use this C3 spectrum block at the auction on July 9, becoming the third network to own the spectrum for 5G, after Viettel and VNPT.

Immediately after winning the auction, MobiFone representative said that winning the frequency auction will be the basis for MobiFone to accelerate the commercialisation of 5G services nationwide.

MobiFone is expected to focus on providing 5G services in big cities, airport areas, tourist attractions and areas with many industrial parks.

To increase the effectiveness of 5G deployment, MobiFone will share infrastructure with carriers that have appropriate 5G bands, to optimise the carriers' resources and give customers the best experience. — VNS
