HA NOI (BizHub) — Microsoft Viet Nam launched its second non-governmental organisation (NGO ) connection day in Viet Namon today.

More than 100 NGO representatives are attending to discuss technology megatrends that help organisations improve efficiency and better serve the community.

Through this event, Microsoft will offer a variety of resources to the NGO sector in terms of software donations, skills training and technical support.

Among key 4 mega trends in IT today of cloud, social, mobility and Big Data, Microsoft sees cloud computing, a general term for anything that involves delivering hosted services over the Internet, as particularly useful in helping NGOs meet the IT challenges they face, said Vu Minh Tri director of Microsoft Vietnnam.

Tri added that, it would especially help save costs for IT staff as well as enhance IT security in NGOs. According to Tri, the more the NGO sector embraced cloud computing, the better they would be able to deliver their services in Viet Nam.

Clair Deevy, from Microsoft Asia Pacific, said like most of NGOs around the world, local NGOs needed to improve their social impact but keep operational costs down which was not easy, adding that Microsoft's technology donations were helping them deliver more efficient services to the communities they served.

Nguyen Thu Hue, director of a local NGO Vietnet ICT, said the donation gave them opportunities to access various inspiring technologies, including cloud computing which was changing the way NGOs work and the way they communicate through technology networks.

Hue said for NGOs with limited capital, limited space and limited technical staff or know how, this solution would help save energy, reduce hardware requirements and was often technically easier to install and maintain than in-house applications.

According to data, there are about 800 NGOs in Vietnam. —VNS
